RE: trigger warnings
answer: no
1: a trigger is subjective
2: pointless for anyone reading from the blog because text comes after the image anyway
if you don’t like it unfollow and/or block from appearing — it’s that simple
I have so many problems with this statement that it is ridiculous.
Firstly, triggers may be subjective, but let’s face it, we all know there’s some biggies - self-harm, rape, abuse, drugs - to take some examples.
Secondly, there is a huge difference between secrets that reference self harm, and secrets that SHOW it. I can understand not having a trigger warning on one that may simply say “I self harm”, but how can you not see that a photo is going to create a much more drastic reaction. Quite frankly, the photo made me feel physically sick, shaky and upset. And I don’t self-harm, I just have incredibly bad memories of being beside someone who did. If it affects me this badly, who’s to say how it would affect someone even closer to the subject?
Thirdly - I did NOT follow queersecrets expecting to see this. The description does not have a trigger warning, and quite frankly, I figured you would be sensible enough to realise we need warning.
Fourthly, you can put a warning in the title, saying something akin to “Trigger: Self-harm”, or whatever subject it may be.
Fifthly, I actually think that in the same way you have a rule of no explicit nudity, I think you should have a rule of no actual bodily harm. Most postsecret-esque things (such as says, deviantart’s equivalent) do, and it prevents things such as this.
That’s my rant done.
